Fundraising Position - The Arthur F. Burns Fellowship

The consultant will engage with ICFJ HQ program staff, project partners, and participating journalists to undertake the following editorial tasks:

  • Identify, research, prioritize, and solicit potential donors, including but not limited to corporations, corporate and private foundations, associations, and individuals;
  • Prepare necessary proposals, solicitations, grant reports, and other correspondence;
  • Make telephone calls and personal visits, acknowledge gifts, develop and update PR materials, and handle any other follow-up activities and correspondence, if necessary, to further acquaint donor prospects as well as continuous donors with the Arthur F. Burns fellowship;
  • Furnish administrators with copies of all pertinent fundraising correspondence and will prepare a written, year-end fundraising summary for submission to the officers and board;
  • Coordinate board meetings logistics and materials (agenda, financial statements, and communication with trustees) with ICFJ and Embassy staff;
  • Draft meeting minutes and distribute them to Administrators and trustees;
  • Assist administrators and the Arthur F. Burns fellowship Board of Trustees with board development and with the result of a long-term funding plan for the fellowship program;
  • Handle correspondence with board members and legal counsel, including letters from the President and the chairman of the board or others to board members.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or the equivalent of 1-3 years of work experience as a journalist or editor;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially MS Word and MS Excel);
  • Experience using Mailchimp and Salesforce;
  • Highly organized and detailed orientated;
  • Experience working with a diverse, multicultural staff;
  • Willingness to travel within the United States for fundraising events and programmatic events, as determined by the project requirements;
  • Ability to work independently.
